Russell County approves 2025 County Engineers Report; overlay cost ~$77,826 per mile, chip seal ~$12,475 per mile

Russell County Commissioners unanimously approved the 2025 County Engineers Report after Justin Mermis, Public Works Director, presented the report at the April 20 meeting. Commissioner Alan Kuntzsch moved to approve the report and Dean Haselhorst seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Mermis provided specific unit costs for recent work: "the overlay on 4 ½ miles cost $77,826.28 per mile, and the chip seal on 38 miles cost $12,475.17 per mile." He also reported that KDOT will inspect FAS760 (3.5 miles west on Highway 40), and that the Federal Fund Exchange is active with an expected return of about $84,000.00 this year. A Zoom meeting on the Hell Creek Bridge was scheduled for April 30, 2026. The commissioners also approved a quarterly arrangement for the Landfill to reimburse the Highway Department for wages and materials used at the Landfill.
