Stephanie Niblock, director of the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs, and volunteers Jeannie Munsch and Elizabeth Bryan asked the commission to fund the Senior Companion Program at $8,600 for 2027 (reduced from the 2026 request) and to maintain $1,000 for the Foster Grandparent Program. Niblock described services provided by volunteers, including light housework, meal assistance, transport to appointments and the senior center, and tutoring support at local elementary schools.
Commissioners acknowledged increased demand for services and the need to recruit more volunteers but did not take action on the funding requests during the April 6 meeting; the items will be considered as part of upcoming budget work sessions on April 16 and 17.
