The Russell County Commission unanimously approved a contract to have Foley Equipment perform a certified powertrain rebuild on the county's 816F landfill compactor. The work, described by Public Works Director Justin Mermis, will include the powertrain, hydraulic system reconditioning and AC system reconditioning at a cost of $293,180.08 and an estimated ten-week turnaround.
"The payment would come from the landfill fund and not from ad valorem tax dollars," Public Works Director Justin Mermis said when describing the funding source and scope. Commissioner Alan Kuntzsch moved to approve the rebuild; Jason Krug seconded and commissioners voted unanimously to pass the motion. The approval follows the staff recommendation to repair the existing compactor rather than pursue replacement at this time.
The commissioners did not record further conditions or amendments to the motion during the special meeting. The rebuild contract will proceed through county procurement processes and work scheduling with Foley Equipment; no additional funding requests were made during the meeting. The commission convened at 9:00 a.m. and approved the measure before adjourning at 9:08 a.m.
