Commissioners approve auction listing for county semi after Toavs recuses

At the April 8 regular meeting Commissioners considered listing a Peterbilt semi and other surplus road equipment for sale through Toavs Premier Auctions. Commissioner Robert Toavs recused himself from the action. Commissioner Doug Marottek moved to approve the auction listing and Commissioner Gordon Oelkers seconded; the motion passed.
Commissioner Toavs explained the proposed process: a two-week advertisement followed by a one-week online auction and that Toavs Premier Auctions charges a 13% fee and would set a reserve price. Road Foreman Ken Norgaard and other road department employees were to be consulted about reserve pricing. Commissioner Oelkers said the county prefers to give options to local businesses first but noted a Sidney-based company could be used in the future. The board approved the motion to proceed with the auction listing.
