Council weighs removing diving well, adding splash pad as part of Riverview options

One council member noted the diving well had been built to serve a diving team and suggested lowering that area to create an ADA‑accessible kiddie area. "The kiddie pool has always been a problem. It's not ADA accessible to start with," the council member said while urging planners to consider CIP timing and broader redesigns. Staff and some council members also recommended separating filtration so a splash pad could operate independently from the main pool, allowing seasonal use even if the main pool is offline.
Members discussed treating the initial engineering steps as early CIP work so options and costs would be known in time for FY 2028–29 construction windows rather than delaying the project several years.
