Cumberland County Board moves into closed session to interview prospective employee, then reconvenes and certifies none of the exempt matters resulted in action

On Feb. 17, 2026 the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors voted to enter a closed meeting to interview a prospective candidate for employment under Virginia Code §2.2-3711.A.1. The Board later reconvened and certified the closed session complied with law and that no action was taken.
On a motion by Supervisor John Newman, seconded by Supervisor Paul Stimpson, the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors voted to adjourn into a closed meeting to consider and interview a prospective candidate for employment. The entry into closed session was taken pursuant to the personnel exemption of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (VA Code §2.2-3711.A.1); the recorded roll shows Supervisor Bryan Hamlet absent and Supervisors Newman, Stimpson and Saunders voting aye, with Vice-Chair Eurika Tyree noted as remote.
The Board later reconvened in open session on a motion by Supervisor Stimpson, seconded by Supervisor Newman, and adopted by recorded vote. The Board certified under Virginia Code §2.2-3712 that only lawfully exempted matters were discussed in closed session and that no action was taken while in closed session.
