EDA highlights agritourism and industrial marketing; notes Green Energy reorganization

Economic development staff provided an update on business attraction and tourism efforts and gave the board a brief status report on Project Green Energy.
The EDA said it is building an asset inventory for agritourism for the 2025 season, expanding digital marketing in Hampton Roads and Richmond, and planning a Friday summer concert series starting in May. Staff encouraged local agritourism operators to register events on the county app and to provide asset details for the county inventory.
On Project Green Energy, the EDA reported that the board previously approved necessary rezoning and a conditional use permit, permitting the project to proceed from a zoning standpoint. Staff said it is aware the developer has filed a Chapter 11 reorganization but emphasized the county is not a party to bankruptcy proceedings and cannot advise on court orders or outcomes; board members were asked to treat bankruptcy matters as matters for the developer and the court.
Board members applauded the marketing and tourism steps and asked staff to continue outreach to local businesses.
