District 19 says it will close underutilized Surry clinic, seeks roughly $112,000 local match

"We're going to close the Surry location," Stewart said, and emphasized the agency does not anticipate local employee layoffs because staff will be absorbed at other District 19 locations.
District 19 asked Surry County to provide a local match for FY2026 of "a little over $112,000," an increase of roughly $11,000 from FY2025. Stewart described possible future additions — including a state‑funded crisis receiving center in the region and mobile units that could deliver services in localities without a brick‑and‑mortar presence. Board members asked how closure would affect response times and were told the agency uses telehealth and mobile response and that mandated response windows would continue to be met.
Supervisors thanked District 19 for the update and said they would consider the local match request during budget deliberations.
