County engineer reports quarry core testing, asks board for road-class criteria

County Engineer Ryne Thornburg told supervisors Oct. 14 that cores taken at the County Farm are being evaluated to determine whether a county quarry is feasible and that additional cores could be taken at up to six more locations after consultation with a geologist. Thornburg said blasting is occurring at the county quarry this week and reported that regrade work on the road between Highway 1 and Douds (160th St, 170th St and Hawk Drive) is nearly complete.
Thornburg also asked the board to provide criteria for classifying roads as Level B or Level C, including whether surface cover (gravel or dirt) should be a factor in those classifications. The board did not adopt specific classification criteria at the meeting; further conversation with the geologist and an engineer-determined recommendation were deferred for subsequent discussion.
