Several residents said a one-time large percentage increase would be particularly hard on people on fixed incomes.
Sally Kendrick said she and her husband are not working and that rising costs for fuel and utilities add pressure: "I'm in an age group where my husband and I are not working... Is there a way to increase these rates a certain percentage every year or every other year?" Barbara Coates recalled that growth and new construction should increase city revenues and warned that repeated tax hikes leave fixed-income residents with limited options.
Other commenters pressed the council to show where cuts might be made instead of increasing taxes. Lanny Lin asked where residents can review city spending to identify potential savings and suggested that rapid growth should yield additional revenue. The council acknowledged these concerns and encouraged residents to review the online budget.
