Special Events Arena committee asks members to staff monster truck event Aug. 9–10

The Special Events Arena Board Committee met July 31 at City Hall and urged committee members to volunteer for ushering and ticket-scanning shifts for the monster truck event scheduled for Aug. 9–10.
“Every person that enters the arena or enters the parking lot has to sign a waiver,” David Wilkes said, noting children who ride during the pit party must also sign. Committee members discussed multiple volunteer assignments including ticket scanning, ushering and staffing waiver stations.
Members set a practical arrival time of about 6 p.m. (gates open at 5:30 p.m.; pit party starts at 6:30 p.m.; show at 7:30 p.m.) and agreed shorter one-hour shifts would be acceptable. The chair said he would email the committee and asked volunteers to report to the ticket booth for assignments and check-in.
David Wilkes said staff will be present but the event requires a large volunteer workforce to handle tasks that proved time-consuming at prior events, including long waiver lines and seat disputes. The committee discussed offering free tickets to volunteers as an incentive and agreed to finalize volunteer counts and shift assignments before the event.
The committee adjourned after confirming volunteer recruitment steps and directing the chair to send scheduling details to members.
