Council agrees to let voters decide new Utah County school district in Draper-area ballot measure
Summary
The council unanimously approved Resolution 24-37 to notify Utah County that Draper City requests placing a proposed school district formation question on the November ballot for Draper areas in Utah County; the vote does not itself create a district.
City staff explained that Resolution 24-37 would not create a new school district but would place the question before voters in the portions of Draper that lie in Utah County.
"The vote tonight is not to create the school district, but rather to pass that decision on to the voters that would be affected by the proposed creation of the new school district," the staff presenter told the council. Staff said they complied with statutory notice and public-hearing requirements. Council member Lowery moved to adopt the resolution; the motion was seconded and the council approved it unanimously, 4–0.
The mayor clarified the resolution applies only to Draper City areas in Utah County (Suncrest and the mountainside) and not to parts of Draper in other school districts. The measure will appear on the November ballot for affected voters and any further steps would follow the outcome of that election.
