Okemo reports strong season, energy-saving upgrades and summer plans

Bruce Schmidt, speaking for Okemo, told the Select Board that the ski area celebrated its 70th anniversary and saw increased reservations this season. "The ski season was 149 days and there was 126 inches of snow," Schmidt said, and he reported a 27% reduction in fuel use through energy-efficiency measures and nozzle replacements. Okemo increased school ski program weeks and reported 646 student participants with 420 equipment rentals.
Okemo plans capital upgrades to reduce diesel use — replacing 500 snow guns and switching diesel air compressors to electric, saving an estimated 250,000 gallons of diesel fuel; the work is slated for completion by November 2026. Schmidt also thanked town staff and emergency services for operational support and noted Okemo will host community events including fireworks for the nation’s 250th.
