Van Buren supervisors order recount in U.S. Rep. District 1 race after Bohannan request

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors voted Nov. 18 to order a recount of votes cast for the race of U.S. Representative — District 1 after considering a formal request from Christina Bohannan, the Democratic candidate in that race. The board ordered the recount on a motion by Supervisor Meek, seconded by Chairman Dale House, citing Chapter 50.48 of the Code of Iowa: "pursuant to Chapter 50.48, Code of Iowa, a recount of votes cast for the race of US Representative - District 1 was so ordered."
The recount will be conducted in the 1st Floor District Courtroom; the meeting record states the date and time are yet to be determined. Members of the recount board were listed as Caroline Barrett (designee for Christina Bohannan), a designee to be named by Mariannette Miller-Meeks, and a third member not yet determined. The motion to order the recount passed with House and Meek recorded as voting Aye and Richards noted as not present.
The request that prompted the recount was filed by Christina Bohannan of Iowa City; the board acted under Iowa statutory authority to direct the recount and to nominate or accept designees for the recount board. The county auditor will coordinate logistics and provide further notice when the recount date and time are set.
