Historic Taos County courthouse project moves forward with $5 million capital outlay and federal grants

Project staff updated the commission that the historic Taos County courthouse redevelopment is now funded to move forward. They reported $5,000,000 in state capital outlay plus approximately $3,000,000 in federal grants and prior county expenditures, bringing the project near the budgeted total and allowing work to continue this winter.
Staff said the project has a new site manager and listed recent progress: elevator shafts and structural decking are in place, electrical line relocations were completed with Kit Carson, and a contractor meeting and a change order will be brought to the commission to address unforeseen courthouse damage. "We are now fully funded," project staff said, noting a CDBG grant closeout with about $30,000 remaining. The project team said it is working to sequence demolition and structural work so as to protect nearby properties and addressed temporary measures such as tenting and winter pours for sidewalks where weather permits.
Commissioners asked about schedules and winter work; staff said a contractor meeting is planned and a change-order request will be presented to the board once final numbers are received.
