Public Health reports hiring progress, WIC return and community prevention activities

Public Health Nurse Manager Shawn Mohr updated commissioners on outreach and staffing at the June 2 meeting. Mr. Mohr said his department has issued an offer to a Public Health Nurse candidate and is awaiting a response. He reported WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) will return to Public Health every second and fourth Tuesday of the month and that the Mental Health Matters event in May drew more than 100 people.
Mr. Mohr also described prevention work with the schools and a two‑year Prevention grant work plan submitted to the Wyoming Department of Health; he announced “There will be a TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) training on June 6th” for alcohol servers and said 10 people from local businesses had registered as of the meeting. The department is working on a community event with the Child Protection Team supported by a Department of Family Services grant.
