Ludlow Electric commissioners seek more seats; merger would open membership to Town residents

Residents asked how the merger would affect Ludlow Electric. Logan Nicoll said the Electric Department commissioners asked to increase the number of commissioners from three to five because it is difficult to get a quorum with three. "Most of the daily operations will not change and be status quo," Nicoll said. He added that if the merger passes two additional Town resident members would be appointed by the Ludlow Select Board until the next Town meeting when an election could be held.
Nicoll also said the commissioners discussed appointing two representatives from neighboring towns with property on Ludlow Electric lines: "They have asked for a representative from Cavendish and one from Plymouth as both towns have properties on Ludlow Electric. Those 2 members would be selected by their towns’ select boards and appointed by Ludlow Select Board," he said. Trustees and speakers emphasized that Ludlow Electric currently has no interest in selling to Green Mountain Power and that any sale would require local and regulatory steps.
