Resident raises water, jobs and energy concerns about proposed data centers

Resident Tim Martin of Cartersville spoke during public comment to raise concerns about proposed data-center development in the region and potential impacts on Cumberland County.
"I just wanted to bring up the subject of data centers," Martin said, identifying his address and district. He warned that while data centers promise construction jobs, they typically employ very few local workers long term and require significant water for cooling and substantial electricity capacity. "These centers use a lot of water... and to build these... they're gonna need money," Martin said, urging the board to consider potential strains on well water and the local electric grid.
Board members acknowledged the comment but did not take action at the meeting; staff and the board will consider such concerns as part of any future proposals or rezoning requests that come before the county.
