Water department reports heavy spring production, new cameras and rising chemical costs

Vice Chair Ron Bixby read a January operations report from Joseph Gaudiana of the Ludlow Water Department noting the springs produced an average of 495,000 gallons per day in January while the town used an average of 219,000 gallons per day. The report said January production was 15.3 million gallons compared with town use of 6.8 million.
The report noted that security cameras and fiber optics are installed at the springs and that Countryside is expected to connect the cameras for remote access. It also said frozen service-line thawing and repairs cost the water department $29,071 in 2025, and that chlorine and sodium hydroxide costs and delivery fees have increased steadily over recent years.
Penny Wu confirmed at the meeting that the springs’ cameras are working and that the water department continues weekly flushing of blow-offs and back-up well checks.
