Van Buren County approves up to $15,000 from opioid settlement for mobile outreach app

Van Buren County supervisors voted Nov. 25 to authorize spending National Opioid Settlement funds to license and maintain a mobile application intended to provide opioid prevention and treatment information and to connect residents with resources. Chief Deputy Sheriff Brad Hudson and Kris Rankin, director of the Van Buren County SAFE Coalition, requested the funding for the app and described it as a way for the sheriff's office, emergency management and 911, and the SAFE Coalition to share prevention and treatment resources with residents.
On motion by Supervisor Meek, seconded by Supervisor Richards, the board authorized up to $15,000 for initial implementation costs and up to $4,500 per year for maintenance after the first year, with all expenses to be paid from the National Opioid Settlement fund (Ayes:3).
