Goshen County adopts Stage 1 fire ban as drought deepens

Goshen County commissioners voted April 7 to adopt Resolution 2026-07, imposing a Stage 1 fire ban amid worsening drought conditions. Emergency Management Coordinator and Fire Warden Thom Bozeman asked residents and irrigation districts to avoid burning during red-flag warnings and to contact the Fire Warden in advance of any planned burns.
Bozeman told the board the county is experiencing “the 3rd driest year on record” and that neighboring jurisdictions and BLM lands had already entered fire restrictions. He urged anyone who plans to burn ditches to have a means to extinguish any spread and to monitor red-flag conditions closely. Commissioner Aaron Walsh moved to adopt the resolution; the motion was seconded and passed. The board also approved related emergency management reports, including siren upgrades and pending grant activity.
