Courthouse work, detox center and Penasco project moving forward, county says

The county’s construction manager updated commissioners on several capital projects. Work on the courthouse has advanced to structural steel and column installation and a change order was signed; compaction tests are pending before concrete work begins. A pre-construction meeting is scheduled and crews will mobilize when weather permits.
The detox center project on Rhymer Road has a signed contract, flooring work under way and a design change to add a kitchen to bring the facility up to code. The fire-sprinkler system design is in progress; staff said the most time-consuming approvals often relate to inspections and fire-marshal availability, and they estimated phase 1 could be usable by the end of the county’s fiscal year.
The Penasco community center project is under contract but winter temperatures limit soil compaction; crews are slated to resume once conditions permit. Commissioners thanked staff for the updates.
