Residents circulate petition, press Selectboard for special election to fill vacancy

During public comments at the March 17 Selectboard meeting, Steve Nichols asked why the board was opposed to holding a Special Town Meeting election to fill a vacant Selectboard seat. Mike Nawrath told the board he has been gathering signatures on a petition to require the Selectboard to hold a special election and expects to have the required signatures by the following Monday.
Town Clerk Anita Sheldon addressed the board about the costs of holding a Special Town Meeting election and submitted possible dates for such an election. The board did not announce a decision to schedule a special election during the meeting.
