Zachary Nelson, Career Planner with Home Base Iowa (HBI), presented an overview of how the HBI program supports veteran recruitment and retention and described the procedural steps for Van Buren County to become a designated HBI Community.
Nelson told the Board that the program requires a formal county resolution designating Van Buren County as an HBI Community and the purchase and installation of HBI signs at paved-highway entry points into the county (the minutes cite Route J40 near Troy as an example). The Board asked staff to research potential nonfinancial incentive packages for veterans and took the designation idea under advisement rather than acting immediately.
