American Legion Post 113 seeks county help to prepare Veterans Memorial Plaza site

Julie Williams, Danny Thornburg and Larry Shipley, representing American Legion Beer-Barker Post 113, visited the Van Buren County Board of Supervisors to present a sketch and request county assistance preparing a Veterans Memorial Plaza on a lot next to the Keosauqua Loop Trail. Williams asked the county to level the lot and clear trees and brush from the sides of the parcel to make the site build-ready.
The Board offered consensus that Post 113 may use the county's cost estimate for the requested site work as a contribution toward required matching funds when applying for grants. No dollar amount for the work was specified in the minutes; the Board took no formal funding action at the meeting and referred the project back to Post 113 to pursue grant applications.
