Middlesex supervisors deny request to use surplus carryover funds for court services bonuses

At the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors meeting on Jan. 15, County Administrator Matthew L. Walker presented a memorandum asking the Board to consider a request from the Director of the Virginia Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Services program to use surplus carryover funds for staff bonuses. After discussion, the Board "unanimously voted no on the request as stated in the memorandum," and suggested that the money be returned to King William County.
Walker told the Board the memorandum "outlined how other participating localities had addressed similar surplus funds" and asked supervisors to review the memo before giving guidance. The minutes record no formal mover or second for a motion to approve the request; the recorded outcome was a unanimous negative on the proposal. The Board did not adopt any alternate direction for reallocating the funds during the meeting.
