Council backs USDA inclusion of locally caught peeled shrimp in emergency food programs

Glavin said the region's fishing fleets have sharply contracted, citing that 22 boats went out this shrimp season compared with hundreds in prior decades: "22. 10 years ago, it was 255," he said, laying out why guaranteed procurement could help rebuild local fleets and processing demand. Council members praised the initiative and offered support for parallel state and federal efforts.
