Richard Sanchez presented a request to approve a $7,000,000 change order for additional scope and time on the historic courthouse renovation, citing concealed structural damage discovered as work progressed. Sanchez said the county has developed drawings, scope of work and a tentative schedule of values and that multiple funding sources have been identified to cover the expanded scope.
Commissioners discussed the need to address hidden conditions in older county buildings and approved the change order on roll call. Sanchez said the amount should cover the required work unless further major hidden issues are found and that certain funds are dedicated to murals, tourism-related interactive elements and protection of artwork as part of the restoration scope.
