Dr. Hawes said the Rodeo Program is a "cornerstone of the College's Agricultural Program," described a potential facility to house 20–40 horses, and estimated a total project cost up to $4 million with roughly $1 million already raised through fundraising efforts.
Chairman McNamee noted deferred maintenance issues at the Fair Grounds and said he was approaching the project from multiple perspectives (as taxpayer, commissioner and program supporter). Commissioner Aaron Walsh raised concerns about impacts to nearby neighbors if the expansion proceeds. Dr. Hawes said the college has contracted a firm to review environmental impacts and suggested exploring a Joint Powers Board to provide shared governance for the project going forward.
