Consultant proposes short-term rental registration to inform housing policy

Michael Allen of Regrowth Planning suggested adding a short-term rental registration to the town plan to help the commission better understand how rentals affect local housing supply and stability.
"[My plan would] incorporate a registration for short term rentals to get a better understanding of how the local housing stock is affected," Allen said. Commissioners discussed the idea as a data-collection tool tied to broader housing and energy strategy work but did not adopt any regulatory language or a timeline; the proposal will be considered as the plan is refined after public feedback.
The commission agreed the July 13 public information session will present high-level goals and that specific regulatory proposals, including how a registration would be implemented and enforced, will be developed after public input and additional staff analysis.
