Manchester to join PFAS settlement; manager says past tests found no contaminants

Town Manager Scott Murphy presented advice from the Town attorney recommending that the town join a PFAS class-action settlement to preserve future legal protections should contamination be detected later. Murphy said testing has taken place in prior years and as recently as 2024 and that "no PFAS have been found." He also confirmed "there is no fee to take part." The Selectboard voted 5-0 to authorize Murphy to sign the settlement paperwork.
Board members framed the vote as a protective, precautionary measure: joining the settlement preserves the Town’s ability to participate in any future recovery or remediation without upfront cost. No remediation decisions or expenditures were authorized at the meeting.
