American Legion asks county for site-prep help on proposed Veterans Memorial Plaza

The American Legion Beer-Barker Post 113 is planning a Veterans Memorial Plaza along Highway 1 and has asked Van Buren County to assist with site preparation, County Engineer Ryne Thornburg told the board on June 22. Engineer Thornburg said Danny Thornburg, a member of Post 113, contacted him to request county work such as leveling dirt piles, removing trees, and addressing the lot slope. Post 113 indicated plans to apply for grant funding but has not submitted grant applications to date.
Board members said they would welcome more information from representatives of Post 113 before committing county resources. No formal commitment or motion was recorded; the Board asked that Post 113 provide additional project details and documentation of grant applications or other funding plans.
