Sheriff raises concerns about Senate File 378 speed-limit changes; county to revisit July 13

Vice-Chairman Dale House said he spoke with County Sheriff Brad Hudson, who expressed concern that the State's blanket increase of the default speed limit to 60 miles per hour on paved two-lane roads does not consider roadway condition or safety on specific routes such as Route V64 between Lebanon and Leando.
County Engineer Ryne Thornburg told the board he has a scheduled meeting with the County Engineers Association to discuss the change in speed limits and possible guidance or actions. The Board agreed to table further discussion until the meeting on July 13, 2026 so the engineer can report back on potential county responses and technical considerations.
