Board signs DOT agreement for Eagle Drive bridge; opts not to keep 55 mph local limit after SF378

County Engineer Ryne Thornburg briefed the board on multiple secondary roads items, including a Federal‑Aid bridge replacement project on Eagle Drive over Vesser Creek (Project #BROS-CO89(111)-8J-89). On motion by Supervisor Dale House, seconded by Supervisor Mark Meek, the board authorized Chairman Waugh to sign Iowa DOT Agreement No. 5-26-HBP-S-013 for that bridge project (Ayes: 3).
Thornburg also summarized Iowa Senate File 378, which raises the default speed limit on paved two‑lane roads from 55 mph to 60 mph effective July 1, 2026. He said his office will evaluate curves that currently lack speed advisories and will adjust pavement markings and warning signs as required. The board expressed the opinion not to pursue a resolution to retain a 55 mph county limit and directed staff to make necessary marking and sign adjustments over time.
