Council asked to postpone charter ordinance updating Aldermanic districts after annexations

Eric Gilge, the deputy city clerk, told council that recent annexations required changes to the ward listings used in the charter ordinance and that several new voting wards were created after the April annexation. "So today, what we have is a charter ordinance that contains a list of all of the voting wards in each Aldermanic district," Gilge explained, and he asked the council to postpone adoption until September 9 so the ordinance to amend the voting-ward designation and a resolution to create the new wards can be considered together.
Gilge said two new wards (79 and 80) were created and, after further work with the county, the city needed to add Ward 81 because of contiguity issues. The ordinance amending the voting ward designation (recorded in the transcript as ordinance number '75 75') is scheduled for first reading and staff recommended deferring action on the charter ordinance until the related amendments and resolution are ready for concurrent consideration on the September 9 legislative session. No public commenters spoke on this item during the hearing.
