Taos County commissioners approved a professional-services agreement with the Taos Community Foundation totaling $800,400 to support workforce development and youth work-based learning programs across the county.
County Manager Brent Jaramillo outlined the package, saying the funds will be used for several components: $250,000 for renovations at 132 Paseo De Pueblo Norte at the Taos Center for the Arts to create a teen and young-adult career hub with a commercial bridal kitchen; $200,400 for paid internships with Taos Center for the Arts and Friends of the Rio Grande del Norte; and $100,000 for a competitive grant pool coordinated through the foundation. Jaramillo also said the county will pay a $50,000 processing fee to the Taos Community Foundation to administer the grants.
Commissioners discussed the budget breakdown and how the pieces fit together; staff noted the funding is intended to create cross-organizational "cross-pollination of services" and to open federal funding opportunities by completing planning work. The commission approved the agreement by roll call.
