VDOT reports high completion rates; board approves six‑year secondary road plan

A VDOT representative, Mr. Carroll, delivered the quarterly maintenance and operations report and said Surry County had a combined 95.4% work‑order completion rate for the January–March quarter, citing completed ditching, tree removal, pothole repairs and flood/washout responses. Carroll outlined paving schedules (Cape Seal and plant‑mix) for town streets and several county routes and said sidewalk work on Bank and Church Streets is included in the secondary six‑year plan.
Staff then presented the county's proposed six‑year secondary road improvement plan (FY2026–2031). Miss Bailey summarized projected annual allocations and a six‑year total of $116,509 and recommended board approval. Supervisor Pierce moved to approve the plan and authorize submission of the supporting resolution; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. VDOT staff said the allocations are based on anticipated state funds and may change with state funding fluctuations.
