Van Buren supervisors abate Bonaparte parcel taxes, note Burlington Northern tax repayments

County Treasurer Linda Whitten informed the board Oct. 28 that the City of Bonaparte requested abatement of current taxes on Parcel #000641208477150 (Certificate of Adjustment #2024-26). On motion by Meek, seconded by Richards, the board approved abating the current taxes due on that parcel; vote recorded as ayes 3.
Whitten also notified the board that Burlington Northern had paid all back taxes, penalties, and interest on several county-held tax-sale certificates (1992-92008; 1992-92014; 1992-92015; 1992-92016; 1992-92084). She reported that someone expressed interest in paying the back taxes, penalties, and interest on county-held tax-sale certificate #2017-185 and that the board will entertain discussion and possible action on assignment of that tax-sale certificate at its Nov. 13, 2024 meeting.
