An applicant seeking to update signage in the downtown historic district was told by the Town of Manchester Design Advisory Board on Feb. 4 to replace existing signs with carved wooden, like-kind signage.
Applicant Eric Briere presented Application S-2026-7 proposing a 7' x 2'6" wall-mounted sign and a 2' x 2' hanging blade sign for the new business branding. Board member Ray Nevin questioned the sign material; Nevin said he "would prefer not to diminish the quality of the signage," noting the current carved wooden sign on the building is part of the Manchester downtown historic character. The applicant said the proposed signs were painted aluminum but said he would notify Beacon Bank that the board recommended carved wooden signage.
The board's consensus was that replacement signs in the downtown historic district should be "in like kind" with the existing carved wooden signage; no formal binding order was issued, but staff will record the recommendation for the applicant and property owner.
