Town Manager Scott Murphy told the Selectboard he will check with the Vermont League of Cities and Towns and town attorneys to determine whether an appointee could complete the remainder of Greg Cutler's term, which expires in March 2028, and whether Letters of Interest must be retained as public records. The board agreed to wait for that guidance before finalizing any appointment process.
Chair Ivan Beattie said the state statute calls for an appointment "forthwith," and members discussed scheduling options including a special election at the November general elections or a separate Special Town Meeting. The board set a March 24 window for Letters of Interest and expects the town manager to report back with the legal interpretation before they hold interviews or make a selection.
