Council adopts three new voting wards after April annexation

City staff explained that a parcel annexed on April 22, 2025, from the Town of Washington created non-contiguous city parcels that required the creation of new voting wards (79–81). The council reviewed maps and procedures and voted to adopt the resolutions that create the wards and assign them to Aldermanic District 2.
The city clerk presented the background, noting that ward 81 was needed to address a contiguousness issue created by the annexation. Motions were moved and seconded; the clerk called the roll on each item. Council President Bergey said the charter ordinance relating to the reapportionment of aldermanic districts required eight affirmative votes for adoption; the clerk recorded unanimous 'aye' votes and the items passed.
Staff said there are currently no registered electors on most of the newly annexed parcels, but one parcel contains a house; staff will follow up with that property owner as appropriate.
