Plan commission staff described a CUP request for 1922 Welsh Drive to permit a 1,200‑square‑foot detached garage that together with the existing attached garage would exceed the ordinance limit. Staff noted construction had already begun and recommended conditions including no business activity in the garage and obtaining required building permits.
Applicant Patrick Redmond said the family intends to add hedges or similar plantings to screen the structure from neighbors. “We were planning on… some kind of hedges or something right in front of it that would just kinda make it a little better looking there right in the front,” Redmond said when asked about screening. Neighbors asked for heights and timing; commissioners responded that screening should be added to staff conditions. The commission approved the CUP with a friendly amendment requiring vegetation on the east and south sides to mature to the building height; the motion passed 7‑0.
The approval included the staff recommendation that no business activity be conducted in the detached garage without first obtaining home‑business approvals and that the applicant obtain building permits before proceeding further.
