Finance director reports grants; council readies surplus equipment and building bids

Finance staff member Tia Cartwright told the council that August was a positive month financially and that several grants had helped pay down debts. Cartwright and staff emphasized the need to manage remaining funds carefully and identified a potential cybersecurity grant to improve IT security. Councilor Calvin voiced cybersecurity concerns during the discussion.
Stan Foster and Councilor Marty Collins reported that an inventory of surplus public works equipment will be made available for public bids at the end of September; a surplus building is currently offered through sealed written bids due by 1:00 PM on Sept. 23 and will be opened at the Sept. 23 council meeting. The Town has also applied to the Ford Family Foundation for a small grant to support a citizen volunteer sustainability committee; staff expect a response by the end of September.
