Norristown council approved Resolution 26-62 on July 21 to accept the preliminary/final land-development plan for Hancock Elementary School (1520 Arch Street extension). The plan—previously reviewed by municipal staff, the Montgomery County Planning Commission, the local planning commission and the design review board—adds eight classrooms and flex learning spaces to the existing elementary school building.
Staff said zoning approval was granted on May 7, 2026, and the municipal engineer and county planning commission had reviewed the application. The project’s impervious-coverage calculation is approximately 47% and the plan includes use within a Floodplain Conservation District as part of the review package. Council moved and approved Resolution 26-62 to allow the school district to proceed with land-development steps. Council did not add conditions at the July 21 vote; next steps are permitting and construction oversight per the land-development process.
