Crooks board of equalization closes assessment book after multiple appeals

The City of Crooks council met and, after adjourning into session as the local board of equalization, reviewed a series of property assessment appeals and approved motions to forward corrected values to the county. During the session, applicants raised concerns about inconsistent assessor measurements and neighborhood classification. One appellant noted discrepancies between blueprint square footage and county measurements and questioned the methodology used to assign neighborhood rows and averages. Tobias explained the county provides neighborhood-row classifications and an overall average (reported in the meeting as about 7.69%), but local variation can be large and the county data does not list every neighborhood-specific average.

The board voted by roll call to close the equalization process and reconvened as the city council. The practical effect of the votes taken at the local level is to place these appeals into the county process for a final decision; no item heard in the equalization session was finalized as a county-level outcome at this meeting.
