The Vernonia School District Board voted Dec. 12 to approve a Memorandum of Agreement with OSEA that adds compensatory pay for bilingual translation and interpretation assignments.
Superintendent Jim Helmen explained the proposed language the union requested to add to Article 9.17 F: "An employee who accepts a bilingual translation and interpretation assignment shall receive an additional one dollar and forty cents ($1.40) per hour on their hourly wage per semester while assigned." The board considered the MOA during Action Items and Javoss McGuire moved to approve; Joanie Jones seconded and the motion passed unanimously with those in attendance.
Board discussion at the meeting did not identify implementation start dates in the public minutes; the MOA language and the approval vote were recorded and the district will work with classified staff and payroll to implement the pay adjustment for assigned bilingual duties.
