Veneta Park Board reviews 2026–27 budget recommendations, flags event staffing as concern

City Administrator Matt Michel reviewed the Park Board’s budget process and used last year’s $14,000 figure as a placeholder while the Board finalized detailed requests. He and Board members walked through proposed allocations for events: Movies in the Park $1,800; Music in the Park $1,600 (reduced to reflect four events); Easter Egg Hunt $1,800 (increased from $900); and smaller amounts for Earth Day and Arbor Day.
Vice Chair Crystal Donagan raised concerns about the difficulty of finding volunteers to set up equipment and suggested creating a line item to pay workers to staff larger events such as Veneta Fourth and Veneta Haunts. After extended discussion the Board decided to postpone finalizing the 2026–27 request until the March meeting; the Board tentatively suggested increasing the overall request to $15,000 to account for staffing needs.
