Public works and water-staffing issues were a major topic at the Nov. 12 meeting. Pete Fortune said crews are pursuing Level 4 operator certifications and that employees who obtain certifications will be compensated; the council discussed a potential requirement that employees remain for three years or repay training costs if they leave. Town Manager Stan Foster said volunteers are assisting operations where hiring capacity is limited.
Councilor Calvin questioned the water-tank cleaning schedule, noting it had been over two years since the last cleaning; staff answered tanks had been cleaned within five years and presented a professional-cleaning quote of $16,000. Councilors emphasized using professional services for safety and quality. The meeting also included discussion of using swimming-pool water for other purposes such as fire safety.
