Board authorizes RFPs for in-home care, waives bid rules for nonprofits and accepts small grants for senior services

The Leelanau County Board authorized issuance of an RFP soliciting proposals for homemaking, personal care, respite, medication management, foot care, and medical transportation services for eligible older adults and approved waivers of the county competitive bid process for several nonprofit providers that deliver county-contracted services.
Senior Services Director Lena Vander Meulen, NMCAA Meals on Wheels Manager Lisa Robitshek and NMCAA Economic Stability Director Tarin Sheffield presented program updates. The Board approved the RFP authorization and also moved to waive bid requirements for the Laundry Project (Family Coordinating Council), Catholic Human Services (Senior Companion Program), Northwest Michigan Health Department (dental care services), ShareCare of Leelanau (volunteer coordination, transportation and wellness), and Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency for Meals on Wheels. All motions carried.
Additionally, the Board accepted 2% spring cycle grant awards from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians: $14,000 for the 5Loaves2Fish protein supplement program, $2,000 for Inland Seas Education Association education center build, $2,000 for a parks pavilion project at Veronica Valley Park, and $2,000 toward Board audio/visual upgrades. These awards were approved by separate motions recorded in the minutes.
