Select Board to place elimination of elected Town Auditor positions on Town Warning

The Select Board voted Jan. 22 to put a warrant article on the Town Warning proposing elimination of the elected Town Auditor positions, after hearing that auditors currently prepare the town report while a professional firm conducts the audit. At the Jan. 22 special meeting, the Mount Holly Select Board voted to include on the Town Warning a warrant article proposing elimination of the elected Town Auditor positions and replacing the function with a Town Report Committee.
Carol Garrow-Woolley reported that, in practice, Town Auditors assemble the town report while an outside audit firm performs the audit work. During discussion, Diana Garrow noted that eliminating the elected auditor positions would require voter approval at Town Meeting and therefore could not be implemented until after the next election cycle. Stephen Michel asked whether auditors or a committee would be paid for the work; the board left such implementation details to be decided if and when voters approve a change.
Mark Turco moved to place the proposal on the Town Warning; the motion was seconded and approved unanimously. The board said it will revisit the matter after Town Meeting and after the ballot results are known.
Ending: The proposal to eliminate the elected Town Auditor positions will appear on the Town Warning for voters to decide; implementation details will be addressed contingent on the vote.
